Lots (and Lots and Lots) to See …

When we see COURAGEOUS in theaters next year, this heartfelt, action-packed film will be approximately two hours long. Currently, as director Alex Kendrick works on the editing of the film, he has access to a little bit more footage than that.

Try 90 hours worth!

“This is the first time we’ve worked with two cameras and we have a ton of footage. But we’re really pleased with the footage,” says producer Stephen Kendrick. “Just to watch this much footage takes a couple of weeks!”

Of course, they could have just stayed up and watched all the footage in four days’ time, but after seven weeks of intense filming, that wouldn’t have been too practical.

“As much as we enjoyed filming, we’re grateful that production is behind us,” Stephen says. “This season of time is a bit more relaxed.”

Yet the intensity of editing a film that looks to impact fathers and families across the country and around the world brings its own pressures.

“We’d ask for prayers of wisdom and discernment for Alex as he works with all of the footage we have,” Stephen says. “We’d also ask you to pray for creativity and efficiency in the editing. There are a ton of decisions that get made in editing. In a lot of cases, he has to choose between what’s good and what’s best.”

We have more great updates to share with you in the next eBlast early next week—including Stephen’s insights on the opening scene of the film! If you don’t already receive our regular eBlast updates, be sure to register now.

Oh man! 90 hours worth of footage! My sisters and I just finished editing five 1.5 hour performances and one dress rehearsal into one “movie” of our 2009 “A Christmas Carol” production. So I’ve been thinking about you all during this editing process, and praying that God would get all of you through it still having sane minds! But seriously, I pray that God WOULD give you creativity, and that there would be no program glitches, no lost work (SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!!!), and that everything would move along quickly and easily. Most of all, I pray that you would have fun, and that God would be glorified through every shot and camera angle, every spliced in audio clip, every blooper caught. :)
“Stay sharp, stay focused, edit hard and honor God!” :)

I pray for God’s wisdom, discernment, creativity, and efficiency for Alex as he works to edit the 90 hours of footage. I can only imagine what a huge task editing all that footage is, but I am reminded what Jesus said to His disciples, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).

I enjoyed all the other movies that I watched with my unbelieving husband, and I can see growth in your movie-making skills. May more and more people be drawn to the LORD through your movies to His Glory. Amen!

The Waller family would be a great and perfect addition to this movie. I plead with you to include this Father. I also know of another Father who quit a big CEO and he is running an international food mission.

Please contact me for more details and contact information.

The Waller family you can find online and they have a DVD out that tells their story. The other Man, Larry Bergeron, with “Kids against Hunger” has been written alot about and has a website.

If you choose to contact me put “Waller and Bergeron” in the subject line so I recognize your email.

    Dear Alex and Stephen,

I am your mom’s friend in Texas. I got dropped off your email list for a while. I’m back on, and praying for wisdom and discernment for Alex during the editing process. I’ve done enough of that to know how difficult it is to choose between good and best. This project is dear to the heart of God, and we believe that since you have asked for wisdom, He will give it to your liberally.

Our family cannot wait to see this movie. Sherwood pictures is the finest production team in movies today and the only crew that makes movies that I don;t have to worry about putting a filter on my tv when they play. Blessings Michael, Alex, Stephen and the rest of Sherwood Baptist in this endeavor. Jay and Michael…make sure to take time to get to “the Hill” this summer for a few rounds.

That’s great that y’all have a second camera. Although it may mean more time in the editing room, hopefully it means less time in production and less time working on continuity.

Praying for the Lord to grant you success in every aspect of the production of this film. God bless!

Hi! I am so grateful there are people who are making Christian films with powerful, lifechanging messages. I am interested in volunteering/helping out any way I can with the film making process. I separated from the United States Coast Guard last month and have experience in various areas. I obtained an Associate’s Degree in Journalism, a Bachelor’s Degree in English, and a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science. I have a passion for screenwriting and I also am willing to do jobs nobody else typically likes to do (chores, moving furniture, ect…) I plan to be living in the south Georgia area until January, when I begin law school in California (Lord willing). Please let me know if there is any way I can help, it would be an honor. Thanks!

I had a dream this morning. In my dream there was a really tall black man I know somehow and he was singing to this girl. He said they were healing each other through song. Then I put my ear to his chest and listened. It was a beautiful song, not just one person singing but I
heard many people singing. Then someone said that song’s from ‘The Courage’ True courage is from Jesus and I need Him now more. Then I just looked up and found your site!!
Wow.. Can’t wait till next year How God will use this movie!

I’m really looking forward to seeing this. The previous 3 movies have really been a blessing in more ways than I can say. Being a father, and in law enforcement myself, I’m sure I’ll especially appreciate this one. I have a few ideas floating around in my head for yet another movie if you’d be interested.

  33. Eleisa says:

God bless this project and each one of you! I come from a family where my DAD was a model of love, fear of the Lord, and the most important thing for me was all the time he spent showing us love, care and that he will be always there for us. I can assure you that my father’s character is being a glimpse of God love for me. His attitude and character made easier for me to understand how great is God’s love and how much more he care for me. Again, Thank you so much for this movie which I can tell it will have an miraculous impact on the families, it will bring the families to the basis, beginning with MEN TAKING THEIR ROLE AS A HEAD OF THE HOUSE, great Love, time together, care and respect for each other, husbands whose love their wife, wifes whose support and cheer their husbands, strong loving children that will lead this world into a new generation of Christ like parenting, and when we have the family in perfect alignment with GOD this will impact the way we treat each other, the way the people relate and a explosion of Christ like love will be spread in each corner of the earth.

  34. In addition to being a cop and ministry leader, I’m also a Fellowship of Christian Peace Officers (FCPO) national board member. Our Exec. Dir, Lamar Moore, was on your set and we are in prayer about the potential impact of Courageous on our “mission field” profession. I’ve posted a link to Courageous on our website: http://www.TheCenturionLawEnforcementMinistry.org. Stay the course and finish strong in Christ!

  35. Terry Lust says:

OK, is there an accompanying ‘study’ to go with this ‘re-directing men to their responsbility? Cornerstone is a small church with little resources. Fireproof had the love dare–with lessons to live by. Anything for this? I am so looking for a possible study to motive men to study God’s word…maybe this will kick start them to get involved in on going studies.
    Thanks

  36. Garrett Cash says:

This is truly exciting. Im looking forward to the movie. As a Father and a Sheriff Deputy there are a ton of challenges my walk with Christ has allowed me to over come.Fireproof still ministers to me after seeing it half-a-dozen times. I joke with all my firefighter buddies God made Police so Firefighters would have heroes. So I have high hopes. I’m praying for all parties involved. Thanks for continuing to seek God’s will in your efforts to minister to the masses.
