Kevin Downes is no stranger to a movie set. He’s produced a dozen films. He’s the writer of two. He’s even directed one. But if you’re wondering what his favorite role on a movie set is, that’s easy.
It’s acting. After getting his start in commercials, Kevin has appeared in numerous movies and television shows.
These days, the California native is in Albany, Georgia, where he’s working on Courageous. Kevin plays officer Shane Fuller, the sartorially challenged member of a small group of Sheriff’s Department officers who are at the heart of this film about fathering.
The real-life father of two young boys plays a divorced father who struggles to remain connected to his only child in Courageous.
“Acting is definitely my favorite thing to do,” Kevin says. “It’s where I started in the film industry. We started producing movies so that I could ensure I had roles that mattered. I am passionate about making films that glorify the Lord and bring people to a better understanding of who God really is.”
The “we” Kevin refers to includes his brother Bobby, who have been making movies together for more than a decade. The tandem also operates ChristianCinema.com, a website they started as a means to distribute the films they were creating.
Whether he is making movies with Bobby, helping run their business, or acting in films, Kevin says his goal is always to be “building up the entire body of Christian filmmakers.”
When professional actors were invited to join with Sherwood members to form the cast of Courageous, it was natural for Kevin to audition for a role in the film. With a background (and passion) that began in high school, Kevin brings a wealth of experience to the set.
And a wealth of roles.
